6 Easy Ways to Level Up Your At-Home Facial
At-home facials are a quick and simple way to keep your skin glowing and radiant. But when too much time passes between those little pampering sessions, skin can start to look dull and tired. The good news? Just 10–20 minutes of focused skincare can boost your glow and your mood.
Want to make your at-home facial feel even more spa-worthy? These easy tips will help you elevate your routine without adding stress or complexity. You don’t have to do them all at once, just mix and match based on your time, skin needs, and what sounds fun!
1. Add Facial Serum to Your Mask
When mixing up your clay mask, try adding a few drops of facial serum! It softens the mask’s texture (no more tight, dry pulling) and adds nourishing benefits from raw oils and botanical extracts. It’s like giving your mask a little upgrade.
2. Exfoliate Before Masking
Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and helps your mask penetrate more effectively. Try exfoliating several times a week and especially right before a mask session. Your skin will feel extra smooth, and your products will absorb more deeply. (We’ll talk more about the power of exfoliation in an upcoming post!)
3. Mix & Match Your Masks
Don’t feel locked into just one type of mask. Customize your facial by combining formulas. Have winter dryness and some oily congestion? Mix a soothing mask like the Rose & Aloe with something clarifying like the Green Tea Toner.
4. Boost with a Mask Tonic
Sure, you can mix your mask with water or milk, but using a toner takes things up a notch. Avapure’s toners are packed with concentrated floral waters and botanical extracts to give your skin an extra dose of nutrients.
5. Short on Time? Use a Hair Dryer
If time is your biggest barrier, here’s a fun trick: use the cool setting on your blow dryer to gently speed up the drying process. It’ll cut your wait time in half without compromising the benefits of the mask.
6. Target Blemishes Overnight
Need to treat a specific breakout? Mix a small amount of your favorite charcoal or deep cleansing clay mask and apply it directly to the blemish. Let it sit for a few hours—or even overnight—for a more targeted spot treatment.
✨ Your skin doesn’t need a fancy spa day to feel loved. It just needs you to show up with a few simple steps and nourishing ingredients.

“Do I Really Need a Serum?” (And Other Things I Used to Wonder About Skincare)
Let me guess. You’ve got a bathroom shelf full of half-used products, you’re not totally sure what does what, and every time someone says “You NEED this one!” your eyes glaze over.
Been there. That was me, standing in front of my mirror, trying to decide if I really needed yet another product in my skincare routine. Especially something called a serum. It sounded fancy… and maybe like something only people with a 12-step skincare routine and spa memberships needed.
But here’s the truth: serums are actually one of the easiest, most impactful things you can add to your skincare routine, especially when you’re trying to do more with less.
Let’s break it down simply:
Facial Serum vs. Moisturizer vs. Oil
Not all skincare is created equal—and each product plays its part.
Moisturizers
Think of your moisturizer like a jacket. It helps seal in moisture and protect your skin barrier. Great for hydration, but not usually packed with the targeted nutrients your skin might be craving.
Facial Serums
Now, here’s the real power player. Serums are concentrated formulas, kind of like multivitamins for your skin. They’re made to deliver active ingredients deep into your skin, quickly and effectively. Whether it’s dullness, oiliness, aging, or breakouts, there’s likely a serum that can help. You can even layer them if you’re tackling more than one thing at once (hello, real life).
🌿 Facial Oils
These are pure oils designed to nourish and soften skin. Some serums include oils, but oils on their own are usually more about hydration and conditioning than targeted treatment. The right oil won’t clog your pores, even if you have oily skin. (I know, wild, right?)
“But I Have Oily Skin!”
Let’s talk about this fear, because it’s real. So many people with oily or combo skin avoid serums because they’re afraid of making things worse.
But here’s the kicker: when you strip your skin of its natural oils (say, with harsh cleansers or skipping hydration), it actually goes into panic mode and produces more oil to compensate.
A well-formulated serum can help balance your skin’s oil production, not add to the problem. Promise.
How to Use a Serum (Without Making It Complicated)
This doesn’t need to be fancy. Just consistent.
- Cleanse well – Take 2 minutes. Gentle circular motions. Let it be your little reset.
- Tone (optional but helpful) – A good toner helps your serum spread more evenly and absorb better.
- Apply a few drops of serum – Massage it into your face, neck, and chest.
- Seal it in – Follow with your favorite moisturizer.
If skincare feels overwhelming, you’re not alone. Start with one small change. Add one intentional product. Give your skin the nutrients it needs—simply and naturally.

You don’t need a 10-step plan. You just need a serum that gets you—and your skin.
