The One Thing That Changes Everything in Homeschooling (And it’s not the curriculum)
Here’s your reminder to slow down.
To take in the snuggles during read-alouds.
To notice the giggles during lunch.
To breathe in the moments of togetherness that homeschooling brings because these moments? They matter more than anything in your planner.
When I first started homeschooling, I had no idea just how much it would change everything.
Not just for my kids.
But for me.
For our family.
For the whole atmosphere in our home.
Did everyone else already know this?? Because reflecting on it gets me in the feels every. single. time.
More Time Together Changes Eerything
Here’s what I’ve learned:
If every child had just 60 minutes a day of direct, intentional engagement with a parent, everything shifts. Their confidence blooms. Their sense of self grows. Their belief in their abilities skyrockets.
And the parent?
Our moods lift.
Our perspective softens.
Our homes feel more grounded and connected.
That’s what homeschooling makes possible: time to connect.
Time to talk.
Time to laugh.
Time to just be together.
The Truth: It’s Not Always Easy
Let’s be honest, though.
Homeschooling isn’t always sunshine and watercolor art at the picnic table.
There will be woes.
- Struggling to find a routine at the beginning of the year.
- Trying to juggle work, chores, and lessons (with someone always asking for a snack).
- Feeling like you’re behind before you’ve even begun.
Yep. I’ve been there.
But when things feel heavy or messy or just too much, I come back to this:
Connection over curriculum. Presence over perfection.
Engage first and the learning will follow.
A Few Simle, Intentional Ways to Connect
When we need to reset or reconnect, these are our go-to’s:
- Playing a favorite board or card game
- Taking a nature walk and noticing the small stuff
- Sharing silly conversation starters at dinner
- Sitting down to do a simple art project, no outcome required
And every time?
Without fail someone learns something new.
Because connection opens the door to curiosity.
Curiosity opens the door to learning.
And that’s where the magic happens.
We’ll be officially starting our homeschool year in September.
When does your family begin?
Drop a comment or message me, I’d love to hear how you’re easing into this new season. Whether you’re brand new or starting your fifth year, I’m cheering you on.
You’ve got this, mama.
And you’re not doing it alone.
